3.11 Structural

Compressive strength
Commonly produced compressive strengths to BS 6073 are 2.8, 3.5, 4.0, 7.0 and 8.4 N/mm.

When blocks are specified to EN771-4 and tested in accordance with EN772-1, the equivalent values are 2.9, 3.6, 4.2, 7.3 and 8.7 N/mm2

Bending strength
As a guide, bending strength lies in the range of 15% to 20% of the compressive strength.

Modulus of Elasticity
Modulus of Elasticity is 1.5 – 3.2 x 10 N/mm .

3.12 Thermal

Thermal conductivity λ

Thermal conductivity is in the range of 0.1 to 0.2 W/mK.

Specific heat capacity
Specific heat capacity [C] may be taken as 1.1 kJ/kg K.
If required it can be calculated from the formula:

     C = 0.98 + 0.42V
     V = percentage moisture content by volume

3.13 Vapour resistivity
Vapour Resistivity is 60MNs/gm.
