Aircrete blocks are fast becoming the popular solution
for new developments as specifiers and builders come to terms with the
requirements of the latest Part E of the Building Regulations.
Now the use of Robust Details E-WM-6 (conventional mortar) & E-WM-7 (thin layer
mortar) proves how easily builders and architects can meet the strict requirements
of Part E for a variety of developments. This further demonstrates the popularity
of Aircrete as an all-round building product recognized for its versatility and
ease of use.
Both E-WM-6 & 7 provide an all aircrete solution for the separating and flanking
walls of semi detached and terraced housing. Similarly, when used in conjunction
with pre-cast concrete separating floors E-FC-3 & 4, in flats and apartments,
aircrete separating and flanking walls can be used. In this instance the
separating floor would be subject to site testing.
Mike Flynn, Chairman of the APA Marketing Committee said; "The
technical benefits of Aircrete have long been recognised, this latest
development only enhances its reputation for excellent sound and thermal
insulation. The growing use of Thin Layer masonry adds a new dimension to
on-site productivity allowing the follow on trades to begin their work sooner,
and as a result the whole construction project enjoys time saving benefits.
Added to this, the construction is likely to be more airtight with the
environmental benefits that can be achieved by the reduction of mortar and
block waste.
"Thin Layer Masonry also benefits from its status as a Modern Method of
Construction (MMC). This is particularly relevant in the social housing
sector as Housing Associations can only gain funding from the Housing
Corporation if 25% of their homes are considered MMC."
